There’s a poem written by the Ancient Greek Theocritus. The poem tells the story of how Cupid complains to his mother, Venus (the goddess of love and ruler of the zodiacal sign Libra), of how the bees sting him because he has stolen their honey. Cupid wonders that creatures so small can inflict so much pain. Venus laughs and tells her son that their stings can be compared to the wounds that he himself inflicts on all those hit by his arrows. The poem explains that the brief ecstasy of love may soon be replaced by suffering and heartbreak…
Who gave you permission to rearrange me?
Certainly not me
Who told you that it was alright to love me?
Certainly, certainly not me
The New Moon in Libra – A Time to Set Things Right
The New Moon arrives on September 25th 2022 at 11.54 pm Central European Time. Libra is the sign of the scales. The sign of justice, balance and harmony. As one of the air signs, it’s a very social sign. Ruled by Venus, Libra is all about relationships, equality and peace between people. On the day of the New Moon, Venus will be conjunct Mercury (retrograde) in Virgo. One of the special qualities of Virgo is fixing things, making things right. Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, is about to station direct. Having learnt from past mistakes, Mercury knows what is needed to fix the problem and is in Virgo especially equipped at doing so. Which tells me that this New Moon is very much about ‘setting things right’, ‘making a new and better start’, ‘doing things different and doing it the right way’ and all of this especially when it comes to relationships. If there’s a conflict in a relationship that you would like to fix, this is a good time to do so. If there’s a connection that needs a dose of peacemaking, this is the time to deliver the medicine. The New Moon is opposite Jupiter (also retrograde) in Aries. Sometimes it’s a courageous act to wave the white flag, to reach out to make peace. Jupiter in Aries recognises that, and blesses attempts to overcome distance and disagreement. Planets in Aries generally reward the brave, the ones who take risk, the ones who go after the things that they want for themselves. But with the New Moon in Libra, this is not about doing it solely for oneself (Aries), it is as much about doing another (Libra) right. With so many planets retrograde, there may be a reviewing of the past going on. Not so much to dig up dead bodies from the grave, but rather to learn from past mistakes in order to do things differently from now on. I hope some world leaders would take advice from astrology…
Horoscopes
These horoscopes are written for the New Moon of September 25th, but are already valid for the week leading up to the New Moon, and are also valid for the week afterwards.
You can read the horoscopes for your Rising sign and your Sun sign. If you don’t know your rising sign, follow the instructions on this page to figure it out or book a consultation with me.
The horoscopes are listed from Aries – Pisces.
Aries Rising and Aries Sun
Dear Aries, this New Moon may come with a new commitment for you. Since this is – according to most astrologers – a ‘relationship New Moon’ for you, it may be about a new commitment in love. Though there is a fair chance this new commitment is work related. Like committing to a new project, a new job, or the like. After all, we also uphold relationships with our employers, colleagues, and clients. Thus… I think this New Moon is more about commitment to another person in general, than it necessarily is about romantic relationships. Which doesn’t mean that Libra season will not be about love for you. Especially when Venus joins the Sun in Libra, your love life may be getting a boost. Not too many days after the New Moon, before the end of September, Venus will join the Sun in Libra. Which is pleasant for all types of relationships, also the professional and platonic ones. And maybe that’s when you start seeing the results of the commitments you make with this New Moon. That commitment, that act of service, that promise, or the like; may feel like work or it may feel like an offering. It maybe in fact about fixing something, about working on a relationship, in order to heal the connection. The rewards will come at a later moment.
This New Moon is a good one to make changes in relationship dynamics. You know, everyone fears rejection; whether in love, in work or elsewhere. But most of us fear it especially in love. Everyone fears being incompetent in the face of intimacy. And I think that everyone, at some point in life, has feared that they are unloveable, in one way or another. Not addressing such fears gives them power. Sometimes it’s not a relationship with someone else that needs fixing. Sometimes it’s the relationship with ourselves that needs fixing (and all other relationships will benefit from it). Perhaps this New Moon is a moment to get clear on what relationship dynamics you are participating in. And with that, perhaps, this New Moon is an invitation to recommit to the partnerships that know how precious it is to face challenges with great heart and honesty. Perhaps, this New Moon is an invitation to recommit to the people that are important to you, the people that you want to have in your life.
Taurus Rising and Taurus Sun
Dear Taurus, the balance between work and pleasure can sometimes be quite delicate. Ideally the two don’t need to exclude each other. There may be plenty of work on your desk these days; possibly even new opportunities. With this New Moon you may be figuring out how to be of service at several places, to several people, and to not forget about yourself. Daily rituals and weekly routines will support you in an overwhelming agenda. That morning yoga session or morning run, making your coffee exactly how you like it… these small things make such a difference. Probably many people (colleagues, clients or office duties) want your time and attention; and indeed Libra season is good time to be of service to others and to focus on work or the things that will build your career.
Though let this horoscope be a reminder, if needed, that pleasure shouldn’t be sacrificed in the process. For a Taurus, pleasure is always worth the effort. You gladly put the effort into making fresh baked cookies rather than just purchasing cookies at the supermarket. You know how to create an excellent bath with salts, oils and rose petals. You put work in your baths, and you’re happy to do so. And I like to joke how probably no Taurus sees a blow job as an actual job, even though they happily put the work in it because they enjoy to work on that job so much. The boundaries between work and pleasure erode, when this Venus ruled sign is in love with her work. When a Taurus enjoys their job, whether it’s a blowjob or an office job, they will make it into ‘a work of art’ and they will derive much pleasure from it. The result of the work needs to make it worthwhile, to a Taurus personally, though. It’s worth it to put effort into a bath, because it’s so enjoyable to lay in a warm bath surrounded by candles and good smells (instead of just soaking in ‘blah’ water). It’s worth it to make your own cookies, because they are so so so much better than store bought cookies. And thus a Taurus will only blow … if he tastes damn fine.
Long story short: in the midst of being focused on your career, your short term and long term goals, and your to do list, make sure you make yourself a nice bath, buy yourself flowers, make love to yourself… This New Moon challenges you to make space for both work and pleasure, and preferably ‘turn your work into pleasure’ and to ‘put the work into pleasure’. Either way, with this New Moon the balancing of the Libra scales is very much about work and pleasure, service to others and service to the self, for you.
Gemini Rising and Gemini Sun
Dear Gemini, in the past few weeks you’ve probably been focused on your private life / home / family. Bringing your attention to the matters that needed it, attending to family or home matters that needed some care, intervention or love. In case you’re a parent, this attention / care / love / focus may be extended specifically to your children in the upcoming weeks. Or the blessings that Venus in Libra will bring (Venus enters Libra at the end of September and will be in Libra during the first three weeks of October) will be extended not to you but to your children (getting good grades, making exciting new starts, them behaving well, or the like).
In case you’re not a parent, but possibly also if you are, be excited to welcome Venus in Libra because she promises to bring you pleasure / romance / creativity. Libra season puts the spotlight on your needs and desires. As the Sun and Venus make their way through Libra, you’re encouraged (if not cosmically, at least by me) to invest in your pleasure and satisfaction. If not buying a vibe, book yourself a massage, place a bouquet of flowers next to your bed, get yourself chocolate bonbons, or whatever that tastes or feels good. Dancing, partying, dining out / hosting a dinner party at home; such activities are also approved of, by me and the stars.
For my single readers: as Venus will be moving under the beams of the Sun, it’s probably not Prince Charming who will come knocking on your door and sweeping you off your feet. Which doesn’t mean that there won’t be romance. But, with this New Moon, blessings are found internally, rather than them just being handed to you. Romantically that means: figuring out your desires, needs and standards. Though this New Moon is in fact a great time to update your dating profile, with having in mind what it is that your are looking for and stating your desires. Be clear on your standards, you should have them. If you’re not getting a match, it will not be because your profile isn’t good enough, it will be because the right one is just not in that Bumble dating pool at the moment (trust me). The current astrology begs you to set high standards when it comes to your desires, romantic life and pleasure. Do not settle! If you don’t meet mister or miss right, buy a sex toy. Invest in your orgasms and don’t let them depend on the presence of another person. And in case you do get a great match on Bumble, great! Have fun dating and keep the high standards.
Lastly, this New Moon would be a great moment to start a new creative project (in case that’s something you’ve been thinking about).
Cancer Rising and Cancer Sun
Dear Cancer, this New Moon is all about planting new seeds when it comes to your home life, your foundations. One of my friends is a Cancer rising, and she has planned a housewarming party on the New Moon, given that she recently moved into her new home. (Hi dear J! Congrats on your new house! I’m sorry I can’t make it to the party, but I’m looking forward to visit you in your new home another time soon.) A housewarming is so fitting for this New Moon for a Cancer! Though also if you haven’t moved into a new home recently, or aren’t planning to do so in Libra season, there’s something about making a new start considering the matters of home, house, foundation, roots, parents, ancestry or family.
Libra season puts the spotlight on and brings the love to your home life and to your private life. This New Moon is just the start. Whether you’re renovating the physical foundations of your life, or other private foundations (emotional, psychological, or relational); loving care is to be given to the places and people that you call home. And thus this Libra season may not just come with a housewarming, but equally possible comes with a family reunion, a kitchen renovation project, or a sabbatical from work to spend time at home. In case you’ve been wanting to start a renovation project or the like, it would be quite nice to start under this New Moon. Even if the project may take six months to come to fruition, the current astrology is quite auspicious and doesn’t guarantee but gives a good chance at a good and satisfying result.
Dear Cancer, if possible, with this New Moon, take a day or two to spend at home and/or with family. Retreating from the business of the office life, at the places you call home / with the people you call home is where you want to spend your time. It’s a classic and a bit cheesy, but nonetheless true, and super valid for this New Moon for you: “home is where the heart is.”
Leo Rising and Leo Sun
Dear Leo, this New Moon comes with the cosmic invitation to go back to school. Let us be reminded that life is a classroom and that we are her forever students. We’re never too old to learn. And we should be eager to do so because it makes us so much better at supporting ourselves throughout life. We sustain ourselves not just by gathering food, money or whatever stuff. We sustain ourselves by gathering knowledge, and your fire sign friend Sagittarius would tell you that you should hunt for it. Long past the hunter – gathering times, modern day human beings can feed their hunger and thirst with books and the internet. What books, studies, teachings, philosophies inspire you? What craft would you like to learn? What skills would be useful, to grow as a person and/or as a professional? With this New Moon you may feel the calling to sign up for a class, get a subscription at the local library, buy a new book, or the like. Though we remain forever students of life, for some of us there comes a time to give back. This New Moon could equally possible be an invitation to step into your role as a teacher. Or to start writing a paper, local newspaper column or book; so you can share the knowledge that you’ve gathered.
Finding the right words may be the challenge and the desire with this New Moon. The title of the book, the first sentence of a letter, the beginning of a poem, the introduction of a paper. What is it that you have to communicate with the other person, with your university professor, with your pen pal, with your lover, or with the world? Or maybe with no one specific. So often we say that words aren’t enough or that we can’t find them. In case you do want to start a writing / teaching / communications project, and may fear that you will not be able to find the words: the astrology tells me that you do already have them, you do have the words within you. You do already know what needs to be said. You know what to do, what to read, what to share, what to write. The gesture doesn’t need to be big. The paper is written word by word, you don’t need to have it all outlined in the beginning. One can start writing a book while the plot is still unclear. New Moons in general are times for new beginnings, so here’s my encouragement to you to start. Be confident that the words are already within you, wanting to flow out.
Virgo Rising and Virgo Sun
Dear Virgo, this New Moon for you is very much about your personal qualities, tastes, knowledge and skills. It’s about what personal qualities etcetera that you can use to enrich the worlds of yourself and of others. It’s about what knowledge, skills and even tastes that you can use to make a living and/or feel empowered. If you are your own toolbox, relying on yourself to make a living and sustain yourself, how would you arrange yourself? If you are your own toolbox, relying on yourself to feel and be empowered, what tools would you polish and showcase?
Under this New Moon you may feel inspired to make an investment or to start a new project or something like that. Virgo’s are known to be quite self-critical. When a Virgo doesn’t follow through on plans, it’s usually because they fear that they will not succeed and not achieve a high standard of perfection. Setting the bar super high, is definitely a Virgo thing. One often needs a dose of Aries, Leo or Sag to get over the self-critical voices and let a bit of courage, faith and impulsivity take the lead. A Virgo knows how to get things right. When a Virgo turn the inspirations into action, they often will do it almost perfectly (there’s no such thing as 100% perfect, my dear Virgo). Anyways… I can’t predict how your investments or new projects will turn out. It’s a good time to plant new seeds though, there’s something auspicious in the air. Don’t let critical inner voices hold you back, because the window of opportunity may close on you.
This New Moon also begs you to love the parts of yourself, that you rely on or have relied on in difficult times. This New Moon begs you to love yourself for how you keep going. This New Moon also wants you to feed yourself. To feed yourself with, whatever it is, that you need in order to feel nourished. Whether it’s books, podcasts, or actual food that you need or want to digest. This New Moon is not just about what you have to offer the world. It’s also about feeling allowed to have; because not everything needs to be shared or given away. And I wish for you to feel nourished and I wish for you to allow yourself to experience pleasure and joy. We don’t just eat / read / learn to get our physical and mental fuel, or at least I hope so. We also do it to enjoy, to taste. To taste life, to taste love, and to taste all the goodness.
Libra Rising and Libra Sun
Dear Libra, this New Moon is yours! In the past few weeks you may have been tired, exhausted, or you may have felt not as social as you usually do, feeling or being a bit alone or retreated. With the start of Libra season, you may feel like you’re becoming your social and/or energetic self again. In the upcoming weeks, after Venus enters Libra before the end of September, you’ll probably feel quite nice. Venus in Libra may work her magic, as if you’re the flower attracting bees to your nectar. Though equally possible Venus comes with a pleasant dose of self-love. Libra season for you is a good time to care for yourself and your body, whether that’s by getting a hair cut, or daily self massages. Love thyself, is the mantra.
In these past few weeks you may have been contemplating on dreams. Connecting with your creative powers or desires, figuring out what you want to do with them. Maybe you’ve been experiencing a writer’s block; which does not have to relate to writing, but can be about anything in life. A desire to do, but feeling stuck. Things are starting to untangle, or they will soon untangle a bit. You may not yet have figured out what the plot of your book will be, but with this New Moon you may write the first sentence (speaking metaphorically here).
As Venus moves from Virgo into Libra at the end of September, your ruler wants you to follow up on you dreams and creative urges. As a Venus ruled sign you’re gifted in creating connections, especially social connections. You’re gifted in connecting anything meaningful, and in giving and sharing in what is meaningful. What gifts, what value, have you uncovered in life? And how can you share it with the world? Mostly, what do you desire to bring into the world? I’m not talking about selfless giving here. I’m talking about giving and receiving; doing the thing you love and receiving pleasure / joy / love in return. For most of us it takes a lifetime to figure out our dharma (the path in life that’s ours / that thing in life that we’re supposed to do). Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not quite clear on it. We’re supposed to figure it out step by step. This New Moon may come with another step in that journey. Authenticity is an important aspect of dharma, being true with ourselves and others. It starts with being true to ourselves about our dreams, our desires, our hopes, our longings. All of these offer us important clues about our dharma. And we find these dreams, desires, hopes and longings within ourselves; not in other people’s opinions, advertisements, or the instagram posts of influencers. Give some love to your dreams and callings, dear Libra.
Scorpio Rising and Scorpio Sun
Dear Scorpio, Libra season kicks off with a New Moon, and for you that’s the start of a period of retreating a little bit. During Virgo season you may have been busy offering your gifts to the world or partaking in social gatherings. The upcoming weeks are a time to retreat a bit. Which doesn’t necessarily mean that your calendar won’t be filled with obligations. But Libra season will be a time to be a bit more focused on yourself and your self-nourishment. Retreating under a warm blanket to get some rest, retreating in you art atelier to focus on your creative projects, or maybe traveling to a distant place in mind or matter like a meditation centre or foreign country. Reloading the battery, of the body and the soul. Reconnecting with creative forces. Silencing the voices of society, turning within to listen to your own. Again, this doesn’t mean that you will need to totally disconnect from the world of the living. Though a social media detox may actually be nice. Nourishment, in the upcoming weeks, is not found in others but it is found in yourself.
There’s so much value to turning within and disconnecting from the social world. For some it comes easier than for others; I guess that also has to do with whether you’re an introvert or extrovert. But personally I thank the Lord, or Goddess, for noise-canceling AirPods (it enables me to be in that so called secluded 12th house space, while walking the busy streets of a city). Libra season invites you to get yourself noise-canseling AirPods. When we cancel the noise from outside, it becomes easier to listen to the noise within. The noise inside that is annoying, that tells us that something isn’t right and needs to be dealt with (for example). Or critical inner voices, that hold us back in life. And the noise that is pleasant, a calling from within to explore a dream or a desire. It’s all about detoxing the noise that holds you back and it’s all about nourishment (connecting with the inner sounds that support you). Think of it as a spiritual instead of physical cleanse, to get rid of the mental stuff that you don’t need. And think of it as spiritual instead of physical nourishment, eating the spiritual food that you need. This New Moon invites you to think about what you need to nourish yourself in the upcoming weeks. Make a list, here are some suggestions, but I want you to make your own: warm blanket, candles, paint and paper, a diary, a silent retreat at a meditation centre.
Sagittarius Rising and Sagittarius Sun
Dear Sagittarius, this New Moon comes with an invitation from friends / your peers / your professional network / your yoga community / your book club / or other social connection or group. Maybe it’s an invitation to a party or other lovely gathering. Maybe it’s an invitation to join a classroom, as a teacher or student. Or perhaps there’s an inner calling (instead of external invitation) to join a group, community project or host a party. Whatever the what and the where, this New Moon wants to draw you (back) into your social life. Which may require from you to make some space in your professional life. Though the two don’t need to exclude each other and may even be of support to each other. Who knows, you could be giving a presentation at a gathering with colleagues. Work and pleasure can definitely come together.
If this New Moon doesn’t coincide with an actual social gathering, or an invitation to join a group or another, it may be more so about planting seeds for future projects. If you’ve been brainstorming about what offerings you want to make to the world, what legacy you want to leave behind, how to give back to your community, or the like, you may come to conclusions in these weeks and may feel able to start working towards these goals. This New Moon, for you, is a lot about being a part of a bigger whole. As human beings we’re all connected, much less individual than modern western philosophers would like use to believe. We rely on each other, we need each other. There are times in life to receive and there are times in life when we give. Together we build towards a better world; and with this New Moon you may get some ideas about how you can do your part.
With Libra being the sign of the scales, I hope this New Moon also is a reminder that relationships (any relationship, also platonic and professional ones), require some type of balance. You may call it equal give and take, though I don’t think we should think in weights or numbers when it comes to human interaction. However, Libra reminds us that mutual investment is needed. Libra reminds us that we should derive as much joy, pleasure, and love from a relationship as we give into it. And, thus, we should give back what we derive from it. If there’s a moment to send a ‘love you’ card to your best friend, a bouquet of flowers to your secretary, or the like; this Libra New Moon would be a beautiful moment.
Capricorn Rising and Capricorn Sun
Dear Capricorn, in the years of 2019-2021 you’ve probably gone through quite some challenges and changes. I hope that the past year or two have been balanced and stable, enabling you to catch your breath and create the solid foundations that a Capricorn likes to have. Though life always pushes us to grow more, to develop, to learn, to renew ourselves. Which is not necessarily about becoming or achieving more or better; but it’s all about learning. You may be feeling like you’re at some type of crossroads. Looking at the future, trying to figure out in what direction you want to go. Maybe you do and maybe you don’t have a clear blueprint or plan; but with this New Moon you might be making the first sketches of it or maybe putting details in place. The future is build on dreams, hopes and visions. What are your dreams, hopes and visions?
Even if you don’t have a clear sense of where you want to go; the path may show itself as you walk on it step by step. Following intuition and gut instincts will get you far. There’s a quote by Rumi, that I often return to: “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strong pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” I most often think of this in terms of career; but you can probably also apply it to relationships, home, travels, hobbies. Though we need to keep in mind that ‘what you really love’, is not necessarily the same as ‘desire’ or ‘need’. Because we can’t have all that we desire, and we will not get all that we feel like we need. This quote is mostly about dharma, in my opinion. Which speaks about our duties in life, the path we must walk. I think that our heart often knows the path, while our minds do lead us astray. For this New Moon I want to share this quote with you, dear Capricorn. I think this New Moon comes with the invitation to sense what it is that your heart is saying, where you should go next, and what steps are needed to get there. Want to become an astrologer? Go to the library and get some astrology books. Want to start your own business? Make a business plan.
This New Moon possibly comes with a breath of fresh air when it comes to your future perspectives. Which is just the start. New Moons are about new seeds planted, and seeds need time to grow. They need a lot of time. Often they are planted before winter. To just wait and wait till Spring starts. There’s no rush when it comes to the important things in life. And as a Capricorn you must know ‘it’s slow and steady that wins the race’.
Aquarius Rising and Aquarius Sun
Dear Aquarius, these weeks you may feel the desire to explore the world. To make new travel plans, to sign up for new studies, start a new research project, or simply dive into a novel that takes your mind to a different place. During Virgo season you may have done some soul searching, now feeling ready to take the first steps towards new goals. Perhaps there’s a path you desire to walk alone, perhaps there are others that come along on your pilgrimage. Life is a bit like backpacking sometimes, walking part of the journey together, walking a part of it alone, meeting different souls along the road. With this Libra New Moon you may be buying train or plane tickets, planning to start a new exciting chapter in life. Though equally possible this pilgrimage of yours is much more internal. As you’re figuring out where you want to go in life, what dreams and hopes for the future you want to pursue; writing in your diary may help you to figure it out, or perhaps receiving counsel from a close friend, therapist, astrologer or someone else you can trust with your secrets and heart’s desires.
The future can be scary, precisely because it’s unknown. No astrology can fix that, no astrologer or tarot reader can tell you exactly what the future has in store for you (and if they promise you that they can, they are full of scam). Any form of divination should be archetypally predictive, not precisely predictive. However, we can have ‘a sense’ of where we’re going, with our intuition leading the way. Fear is often not the best provider of counsel, at least not when we’re not in immediate danger. Most often, life does not need to be feared. Our gut instinct, which we may connect to through deep belly breaths and relaxation practices, is most often the best counselor we can have. Where does that intuition want to lead you? I would like to ask you to tune within with this New Moon, to take those deep belly breaths and connect with calm inner voices that know how to lead yourself on your way.
Pisces Rising and Pisces Sun
Dear Pisces, with this New Moon you may be starting a new collaboration, partnership or shared project; or a commitment may be renewed, an agreement updated, a shared project getting a new boost. This New Moon is probably about figuring out how you want to work together with one another, having a shared goal in mind. Which may be at work, or it may be in private. Like signing a prenup with your fiancé; making a business plan with your business partner; actively working together with another student on that research project; or something along those lines. Two can achieve more than one. And with this New Moon it’s about getting clarity on the what, where and how; how two can achieve more than one. Figuring out how your separate pieces can come together and finish one puzzle. Overcoming differences in order to be able to work on a shared dream. This New Moon possibly comes with a challenge and/or opportunity to work together. To help each other out. Which is not always an easy thing, it may require some give and take.
And with that being said, this New Moon may come with the invitation to take a closer look at relationship dynamics that aren’t working. And here I’m copy pasting something that I wrote in the horoscope for Aries, as it may also apply for you: “You know, everyone fears rejection; whether in love, in work or elsewhere. Perhaps, this New Moon is an invitation to recommit to the people that are important to you, the people that you want to have in your life.”
