Horoscopes for the cardinal rising signs – Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn – second half of 2020

July 8, 2020

Artist unknown

The astrology of 2020 sucks. It just sucks. We see it reflected in the world: pandemic and other crap. The world is a mess. As above so below. The transits of the luminaries and planets throughout 2020 are not just intense, they are destructive and purge all toxicities out of the repressed unconscious trauma and sadism of humankind. This needs to bring transformation, healing, revolution and growth. But it will take a while until we get there. Throughout 2020 we get to face our global karma. In 2021 the healing starts. As I’ve repeatedly stated: the malefic planets are strong throughout this year and in conflict with each other, while the benefic planets are either as weak as they can be (Jupiter) or in okay-ish and with moments weakened state (Venus). We don’t just see the crap astrology reflected in what’s happening in the world. It’s also reflected in our personal lives. The way in which the transits in 2020 impact you, however, depends on your personal chart. It’s not that nothing good happens in 2020. It’s just an intense and quite difficult year for the most of us.

The first half of 2020 was certainly interesting. What to expect for the second half? I wrote down some insights on what’s to come for humankind in general in the article on the last Full Moon (click to read). I also wanted to share horoscopes for the different signs. This turned out to be a way bigger project than I intended and wanted it to become (and I still limited myself tremendously). So, I decided to share the horoscopes in groups. First the cardinal signs, then the fixed signs, then the mutable signs. In this article I share the horoscopes for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

These horoscopes are written for your rising sign. They are not written for your Sun sign. The rising sign is the sign where your ascendant is placed in. To figure out what your rising sign is, you’ll need to know your place, date and exact(!) time of birth. If you don’t know your time of birth, unfortunately you can’t know your rising sign.

To figure out what your rising sign is you go to astro.com. Then go to free horoscopes and to extended chart selection or natal chart / ascendant. Fill in your data. Under extended chart selection: go to options for zodiac houses and under house system choose ‘whole signs’. Then click on ‘show the chart’. Your rising sign (also called ascendant) is the sign that is on the first house. It is denoted as AC. You also see it written in the red lettering under your Sun sign under your personal info.

I wanted to write horoscopes for the second half of 2020. However, for the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) a lot of the more important transits are happening over a few years, instead over the next couple of months. For the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) the most notable transits in the second half of 2020 are in fact short transits that happen in the next few months. For the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) the most impactful transits have been happening for a while, but this will change at the end of this year. So I’ve only incorporated a few transits and definitely not all in these horoscopes. I also can’t take into account your personal natal placements. These horoscopes are very very general. For a better assessment you would need to book a reading.

Last note: I know that some readers like to know how I delineate certain things. I explicitly name the different transits in the horoscopes, so those of you who like to learn more about astrology can get some insight in ‘how to write horoscopes’.

The astrology of 2020 is crap. Don’t expect rainbows and pots of gold. These horoscopes are kind of depressing… With silver linings. We do it for the silver linings! Ok here we go. Below are the horoscopes for the cardinal signs.

Aries rising

Dear Aries,

We are just coming out of an eclipse season that made hard aspects to your first house. Depending on the degree of your ascendant, this was more or less of an intense time. Either way: you got through it! Throughout the rest of 2020 your ascendant’s ruler Mars will move through your first house and for a big part of it he will be retrograde. This is an important transit for you. Mars in the first house brings you lots of energy. Mars brings you physical energy and also the will and need to assert yourself. You will need to find an outlet for this energy. Whether it’s work, sports or sex, some kind of project you have going on; you will need to put this energy into something. Having Mars moving through the first house can sometimes bring friction between you and others. Mars in the first house brings on the need to assert oneself, which can create friction. Sometimes Mars in the first house can make someone a little dominant. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Mars can really be of help when we need to stand up for ourselves. And friction, discussion, fighting or whatever, isn’t necessarily bad either. It can clear up some air. Sometimes a fight for justice is needed.

This transit of Mars through the first house will be especially beneficial for people who were born during the night. It may create a little more friction for people who were born during the day. But either way, having Mars at home is pleasant for you. It provides you with life force. I would like to advice to make use of it.

Mars will station retrograde on September 9th and will be retrograde until mid November. During this time period you may find that your energy levels suddenly drop. From a high to a low. To have your ruler moving retrograde asks for a time of introspection. Normally Mars likes to go out into the world and/or likes to be active and impulsive. Mars is an active planet. Aries is cardinal fire sign. With your ascendant in Aries there is definitely a part of you that is passionate and active. When your ruler is retrograde, you will need to slow down a bit. You might feel a bit unsure about things, a bit more insecure. Remember that this is a phase and that this will change. It’s a good time to take stock of where you are in life. To reflect on how things are going. If you take time to slow down, you might gain beneficial insights. Try not to get frustrated. And when you do, cool yourself down by remembering this is a phase.

Mid November Mars will station direct again. You will have your energy, passion and motivation back in no time. Ideally you will have come to some kind of realization about your identity and self or about the way you want to express yourself in the world. You can now transform the gained knowledge into action.

At the moment there is a big pile of planets retrograde in your 10th house of career, naming Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto. In the past few years you have probably been working hard and with discipline. Maybe you have encountered some new responsibilities or challenges in your career. Good chance your career has undergone changes; which can be both positive and negative. Until mid December both Jupiter and Saturn will stay in your 10th house, before moving on into your 11th house. There is some last career related stuff to handle in 2020 and there may be some more challenges popping up. If challenges do pop up: make use of that energy that Mars provides you and channel it into work (don’t use it however to get into conflict with your annoying boss; just count to ten and breathe if he or she pisses you off). I think you will be relieved when Saturn and Jupiter will move on to your 11th house of communities and friends at the end of 2020. It will not mean that you won’t need to show up at work anymore, obviously, but it will definitely relieve you off some pressure.

From October 27th until November 21st Venus will move through your 7th house of love relationships and other committed partnerships. This is a lovely transit and great for intimacy and connection. Venus will support you in all relationships, at work, within your family, in the communities you are part of and in love. It will be especially supportive in love. If you are in a relationship: carve out some extra time in your calendar to connect with your partner. Make time for romance, for talks, for whatever helps you to bond and enjoy each other. In case you are single: this transit might bring you some luck in dating. A potential partner might enter your life. You will need to be out and about though: they won’t come knocking at your front door. Anyway, it’s a lovely transit. Good for connection, pleasure and romance. Enjoy it! In a year of crap astrology, this is one of the better transits one can get.

Cancer rising

Dear Cancer,

Just recently there was a Solar eclipse in your 1st house of self and a Lunar eclipse in your 7th house of others. Eclipses have been happening in these parts of your chart for roughly the last two years. Now it’s finally finished. In the past two years you have been asked to release and you have been pushed to grow. I guess there have been some challenges when it comes to committed partnerships, either in love, work or close friendships. Ultimately eclipses want to help us grow and realign us with our destinies. But they don’t always do so in a gentle way. Often they do it by taking something away. Depending on the degree of your ascendant and depending on whether you also have planets in Cancer or Capricorn, the past two years have been more or less of a ride when it comes to your love life and self development. Again, even though they don’t do it in a gentle way: eclipses want to push us forward into growth. For the next twelve years the eclipses won’t happen in this part of your chart, you might find comfort in that knowledge.

There is however still some activity in your 7th house of relationships. Saturn has been moving through your 7th house in the past few years. You have been forced to experience yourself through one-to-one encounters with others, through partnerships and intimate connections. Close relationships were definitely an area of your attention in the past few years. This transit often puts relationships to the test. Love relationships, but also business partnerships and important work relationships and friendships. It is difficult to maintain a romantic committed partnership when Saturn moves through your 7th house. It doesn’t necessarily need to lead to breakups and divorces, but Saturn will cause challenge.

In the past two to three years you have been confronted with boundaries in relationships. You either needed to learn to set boundaries, or you needed to learn to handle other people’s boundaries. Through your experiences you have been forced to reflect upon who you are in a relationship, what you (want to) bring to a relationship and what you are looking for in a partner. You have been forced to reflect upon your personal needs in relationships. Experiences have asked you to take responsibility for your part, your accountability and your needs in relationships. It has been confronting. You have probably learned a great deal about yourself.

Even though this transit of Saturn moving through the 7th house can bring about breakups, it can also help to solidify relationships. Saturn teaches us to take responsibility for both ourselves and the other. Saturn asks us to show up and do hard work. When you put in the effort, this transit can bring about two great things. It can solidify a relationship into a rock solid relationship that can survive pretty much anything (if something survives Saturn, it’s damn good). The other great thing, maybe even better thing, that Saturn in the 7th house can bring about: knowledge of the self and learning to set boundaries and stand up for yourself. Sometimes this transit is not about learning to show up for that other person; sometimes this transit is about learning to stand up for oneself. Saturn is currently retrograde in your 7th house. There are still some last lessons to learn, some last challenges to overcome. Mid December Saturn will move into your 8th house. This will probably feel like a relief!

At the end of June Mars moved into Aries and into your 10th house of career matters. Mars will stay here all throughout the second half of 2020. Mars gives you energy and motivation to tackle career matters and challenges. Mars sometimes brings about conflict or separation, so there may also be some challenge when it comes to career. Try to keep your head cool in case issues arise; don’t respond immediately if you don’t need to and take some time to reflect on things. However, you probably experience a good deal of energy at the moment and I suggest you direct it at your work or into a project you have going on.

Mars will station retrograde 9th of September and he will stay retrograde till mid November. During this time you will probably encounter things in your career that need to be done over/again, or you will encounter some challenges. It’s possible there will develop somekind of frustration or issue at work. It’s also possible that you will feel a lack of motivation and energy and may feel frustrated, bored or just tired at work. This will just be a phase. From mid November onward you will regain that energy and motivation. Mars stays in your 10th house for the rest of 2020. So in December you will probably have a productive month again, full of energy. There will be some intense astrology in the last month of the year (not necessarily good or bad for you; that depends on your personal chart), so it’s nice to know that you will probably have the energy to take it on.

From the 7th of August until the 6th of September Venus will be moving through your 1st house. This is really nice! During these weeks you will feel more confident. You will have some kind of attraction or magnetism going on; definitely helpful in case you are single and if you feel like dating. Enjoy the Venusian vibes! Make time to dress up, dance, have massages, take long baths, eat good food and make sure you attend to your sexual needs. Venus is all about pleasure. The more you attend to your sensual needs in these weeks, the more pleasure and flirtations you will attract.

Libra rising

Dear Libra,

We are just moving out of eclipse season. In the past few weeks two eclipses took place in the Cancer – Capricorn axis, that contains the 4th and 10th house in your chart. Multiple eclipses took place in this part of your chart in the past two years. These houses have to do with home and career. In the past two years there have been changes in these areas of life. Which not just had to do with the eclipses taking place in this part of your chart, it also had to do with Saturn his presence in Capricorn.

In 2017 Saturn moved into Capricorn and your 4th house. In the last few years you have been working on your domestic life. This could have taken place in several ways. You have been working on a house; either buying a house, renovating, doing other kinds of work on your house. You may have been reorganising in your home. Or possibly there were changes in roommates (friends, family, romantic partners). Good chance there were challenges, as Saturn often brings challenges into our lives. Maybe you needed to work on your house not because you felt like it, but because there were some issues you needed to attend to; for example. This spring Saturn moved out of Capricorn and into Aquarius for a bit. However, recently Saturn entered back into Capricorn because he is in a retrograde period. Saturn will stay in your 4th house till the end of this year. So there’s a good chance that some of the topics above will still ask for your attention in the next few months, even while you thought you were done with it.

A Saturn transit through the 4th house doesn’t always imply work on an actual house. The 4th house also contains ancestry and roots. When Saturn moves through this part of one’s chart, one is often asked to reflect on roots and history. In the past few years you may have been reflecting on your childhood and history. Or you may have had to deal with challenges in regards to your parents and/or ancestry. While Saturn moves through the 4th house he opposes the 10th house. Matters of career have also been asking your attention. You have probably worked hard in the last few years, both at work and on yourself. Good chance you made a few (career)changes and new beginnings. Saturn stays in your 4th house till the end of the year. When he moves into your 5th house he will put the focus on topics that have to do with children/creativity and romance. Usually (not always) a Saturn transit through the 4th house is more intense than a Saturn transit through the 5th house. That, coupled with the fact that the eclipses won’t be happening in your angular houses for a while, means that the next couple of years will probably be less busy than the last two years have been. Less busy doesn’t equal more happy. But in general, most Libra rising people will experience more ease in the coming years (it does however also have to do with personal placements, so this won’t go for everyone).

Currently Mars is moving through your 7th house of committed partnerships. Mars stays here throughout the rest of the year. This transit can bring both fun and friction. Mars brings passion, heat and energy. So, Mars can spice things up in the bedroom. But Mars can also bring arguments, anger and irritation. Mars can also bring conflict with other people than romantic partners; Mars may bring conflict between you and friends or co-workers. Conflict isn’t always a bad thing though. Sometimes frustration or anger needs to come to the surface so it can be dealt with. Too often we hold our frustrations inside for the sake of keeping peace. But conflict can also bring growth, so this transit isn’t all that bad as it is often painted.

Mars is now opposite your 1st house, the house of the self and the body. So, you may also experience some inflammation in the body (this would mostly be the case for people born during the day and will probably be less of an issue for people born during the night). Mars will be retrograde from the 9th of September till mid November. If there were some issues in your committed partnerships (work, friends, love) in July and August, they might resurface while Mars is retrograde. You might also experience lack of energy and motivation; this will disappear again though when Mars stations direct again mid November.

On October 27th Venus moves into Libra. Venus is the ruler of Libra and your ascendant. This transit is really nice for you. Venus will stay here till November 21st. While Venus moves through your 1st house you will experience extra confidence. You will also have some extra magnetism and attraction going on. In case you are single and in for dating: this is really helpful. Enjoy the Venus in Libra vibes! Boost the vibes by dressing up and giving some extra love to your body (think massages and baths). Carve out time in your calendar for Venusian things. This also means sex. So, plan a date with your lover or favorite sex toy. Have fun and make sure you enjoy this transit, Venus isn’t in your first house that often.

Capricorn rising

Dear Capricorn,

In the past two years several eclipses took place on the Cancer – Capricorn axis. The last eclipse on this axis took place just recently. It will take twelve years before eclipses will happen on this axis again. For you it means that eclipses have taken place in your 1st house and 7th house in the last couple of years. This must have been intense. The 1st house contains the self and the body. The 7th house is the house of others, specifically committed partnerships (love, business and close friends, but primarily love). These eclipses must either have triggered intense events and changes when it comes to your love life and/or triggered a whole lot of reflection on the self. For most of you it will feel like a relief that the eclipses will move on to another part of your chart (though it also depends on the placements of your natal planets).

Apart from eclipses in the 1st house, Saturn has been moving through this area of your chart since 2017. Currently he is retrograde in your 1st house. Saturn stays in Capricorn till mid December. Then he will move on into your 2nd house. This will probably also feel like a relief. A Saturn transit through the 1st house isn’t easy. Saturn has been asking you to take stock of your life. Not just that, he has also been asking you to take ownership. Whatever you were or aren’t pleased with in your life, Saturn has been pushing you to take responsibility for it. He has probably thrown some challenges in your face that made that you couldn’t ignore the fact that you are responsible for your own life. (Which doesn’t deny the fact that a lot of stuff in life is outside of our control. We do however have the autonomy and responsibility to decide how we want to respond to that stuff.) In the past few years you have had the chance to do a great lot of work on yourself. Practices like therapy and meditation are greatly supportive of Saturn moving through the 1st house. It’s not all easy. But if you have done the work, it will most definitely pay off later in life (specifically in 7 years when Saturn is in your 4th house and in 14 years when Saturn is in your 7th house). So, at the moment Saturn is retrograde: there are some last lessons to be learned for you. Hold on for a bit longer, in 2021 things will probably be less intense for you.

Throughout the second half of 2020 Mars moves through your 4th house of home, roots and ancestry. This can transit can bring both pleasure and pain. Mars can bring passion and motivation, he can bring the energy to get things done. Mars can also bring friction and conflict. While Mars moves through your 4th house he may bring conflict between you and a parent or a parentlike figure, for example. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We often repress emotion, frustration and anger. Sometimes it needs to come out. It might be you that initiates conflict, it might be the other person. Either way, sometimes conflict is needed because there is injustice. Sometimes conflict is needed to clear some air. If conflicts do arise between now and the time Mars stations retrograde, then they will probably resurface again while Mars is retrograde from September 9th till mid November. (Apart from conflict with parents or in the family, Mars in the 4th can sometimes also create some friction at work or in your career, because he is opposite the 10th house.)

From the 7th of August until the 6th of September Venus will move through your 7th house. This is beneficial for all your committed partnerships (love, work and close friendships). During these weeks you will connect with others with more ease and others will find comfort in spending time with you. It’s a great time for social activities. In case you are in a romantic relationship, this will be beneficial for intimacy. Both emotional intimacy and physical intimacy. In case you are single; during this transit a potential love partner may enter your life (or someone you already know may present him/herself as a potential partner). Keep your eyes open though. Potential partners won’t come knocking at your door. So, in case you want to date: go out into the world! Enjoy the good Venusian vibes dear Capricorn.
