Tap Into Your Courage
The New Moon arrives on December 4th 8.43 am CET. This New Moon is a Solar Eclipse, which means that the Sun, Moon and Earth are lined up in such a way that the Moon blocks the Sun’s light from reaching the Earth. This is the last eclipse of a series of eclipses that took place on the Gemini – Sagittarius axis. This means that we’re closing a chapter in the part of our natal chart that contains the Gemini – Sagittarius axis. Something is coming to fulfilment and completion, or maybe simply to an ending. Given that this eclipse is a New Moon, there’s also a brand new start to be made.
Given that the New Moon is at 12 degrees Sagittarius and Mercury is at 15 degrees Sagittarius, there’s quite a statement to be made. Especially if you have the ascendant, midheaven, Sun, Moon or a personal planet in between 11-16 degrees of any of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces).
This New Moon is ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter at 25 degrees of Aquarius receives an intense square from and is overcome by Mars at 23 degrees Scorpio. This suggests to me that Jupiter’s general optimism is challenged by the defensive attitude of Mars in Scorpio. Mars in Scorpio is that Scorpion ready to attack (but only does so if it feels it’s necessary; and necessary doesn’t always mean justifiable, and what is necessary in the eyes of one isn’t always so in the eyes of another). Mars in Scorpio is boiling water. Mars in Scorpio is that CIA agent interrogating. Mars in Scorpio is just fucking intense and not so nice at all. Jupiter naturally is optimistic, and the Sagittarius signature is philosophical and adventurous. Jupiter is focused on bringing about good stuff. Jupiter brings connection, while Mars brings separation. You can see the friction between the two.
Mars leaves a mark on this New Moon. In your chart, this New Moon takes place in the house that contains Sagittarius. But the houses that contain Aquarius and Scorpio may feel very present too, because that’s where Jupiter and Mars are at the moment. If you have your own natal chart, and know which houses contain these signs, you can ask yourself how the houses are connected at this moment.
Mars and Jupiter do have certain things in common. Both are masculine / yang. Both Mars / Scorpio can be very defensive of themselves. Jupiter / Sagittarius ‘is always right’ or ‘knows it better’. For some this New Moon may be about stating your truth. About standing up for yourself / others / something that matters. Scorpio can sometimes hold on for too long. Sagittarius can sometimes become dogmatic. For some this New Moon may come with the lesson of finding balance between not giving your truth away too easily and not holding on for too long; the balance between daring to enter an argument in order to stand up for your opinion and not being able to leave the argument because you can’t give up on trying to convince someone who will not be convinced.
Both Mars and Jupiter are courageous in their own way. Both have strong desires! They just go after their desires in different ways. Desire may run high with this New Moon. You may feel a strong urge to go after what you want. I can’t advice you to go for it, I also can’t advice against it. I can’t predict that you will get what you want. However, an archer that doesn’t shoot, will never hit the mark anyways. It’s not in Sagittarius’ nature to sit still. This archer needs to aim at something and go after it. Maybe it’s just simply about ordering pizza for you and honouring your desire for carbs. Maybe it’s about doing the fucking scary thing of declaring your love to someone. Maybe it’s about doing the fucking scary thing of ending a relationship and honouring your desire to be single.
The New Moon takes place in the second decan of Sagittarius. This decan is related to the Nine of Wands card in Tarot. The Nine of Wands is also known as ‘the Lord of Strength’. As Susan Chang writes about the Nine of Wands in her book ’36 secrets: A Decanic Journey through the Minor Arcana of the Tarot’ (page 186): “Here we find previously untapped resources within ourselves to do the One Brave Thing.” This card speaks about going on in the face of adversity, continuing through challenges and about tapping into personal power, strength and courage.
These horoscopes are written for the New Moon (Solar Eclipse) on December 4th and are valid for the week leading up to the New Moon and the weeks afterwards (the end of November – the end of December). The topics of the horoscopes are most intensely present in the week leading up to December 4th and the week after, but could still show up during the rest of December.
Read for your Rising Sign first and Sun Sign second.
These horoscopes are written for your rising sign (ascendant). I advice you to read the horoscope for your rising sign. You may also read the horoscope for your Sun sign for extra inspiration. These horoscopes are meant to offer you support and inspiration. You can leave the things that don’t resonate with you.
The horoscopes are listed from Aries to Pisces.
We all try to make sense of the world. We all try to understand what life is about. In the process, we take on philosophies and psychologies. We develop our own world view. We create a world view based on personal experiences, high school teachings, world travels, cultural stories, and sometimes religious or other dogmas. Our world view, our systems of giving meaning, they aren’t fixed. They at least don’t need to be. They evolve. They evolve as we need them to evolve. They need to evolve in order for us ‘to make sense of this world’. Sometimes we need to let go of certain teachings, spiritual practices, religious dogmas or scientific views that have been disproven, because they don’t fit us anymore. Or we need to give them a makeover. For you, dear Aries, this eclipse takes place in your ninth house of travel, academics, and philosophy. If this eclipse isn’t about ‘cleaning up your world view’; it may be about finishing that research project or studies, saying goodbye to a spiritual practice or ending some kind of journey. You’re clearing space for a new chapter to emerge. New world views, new studies or new pilgrimages. There are many ways to explore the world, it doesn’t need to be by plane. There are many ways to broaden the mind. There are many ways to spiritually grow. Multiple roads lead to Rome. It’s time to say goodbye to some familiar roads and it’s time to explore some new ones. Which road do you want to take?
With this eclipse you may finally be ready to end a collaboration that doesn’t give you as much as it takes from you. You may have started a partnership or contract of some kind in Summer 2021, that you now find is no longer working for you or that just has reached its goal. Or, in the past year and half you may have learned about your general ways of collaborating with others; figuring out that old patterns in partnerships, that you thought you liked, are actually not in your service. Relationships involve exchanges. Collaborations are not just business deals or projects with a specific goal in mind. Exchanging energy is collaborating. Exchanging resources is collaborating. Exchanging intimate feelings is collaborating. Sex is collaborating. What have you learned about the exchanges that you make? Where, when and to whom do you tend to give more than you receive? This chapter of eclipses on the Gemini – Sagittarius axis has been all about becoming aware of the partnerships that do and do not work in your favor. Whether it has been about sharing a home or sharing office tools. Whether it has been about exchanging money or sexual fluids. Sometimes people don’t hold up to their end of the bargain. Sometimes people let us down. Sometimes we let ourselves down by not asking for what we want to receive or setting the boundaries that we need to set. With this New Moon you may be ready to end a partnership that you no longer can be a part of. Or at least you’re ready to end certain patterns and to change partnership agreements. This will create the space for a new or updated collaboration to enter your life, one that suits you better.
In the past year and a half, you’ve needed to let certain relationships go; mourning the loss of people who were once important in your life. You’ve said goodbye to business / romantic / therapeutic or otherwise significant relationships. In the process of saying goodbye to some significant others, you’ve needed to say hello to yourself. In the process you’ve been offered to chance to get to know yourself better and to learn about who you are in relationship to another. Human beings are social beings, we don’t live alone on islands (or at least we’re not supposed to live alone on islands). This process of saying goodbye isn’t always easy. But wherever we let something go, we create space for something new. With this Solar eclipse, you’re finishing that chapter of relationship ‘drama’. With the finishing of one chapter, comes the start of a new one. What have you learned about relationships in the past year and a half? What have you learned about your needs? What have your learned about what you want and need from a business / romantic / other type of partner? What have you learned about yourself? About what you have to offer? And about your shortcomings? Take what you’ve learned from the life lessons you’ve been served in the past year and a half. Don’t forget those teachings. This relationship saga is finishing up, but the teachings will still serve you well.
This Sagittarius season is about either completing a healing journey or finalizing some work project. For some Cancer risings the eclipses that have been taking place on the Gemini -Sagittarius axis have been all about serving yourself and you mental / physical health. About tending to your wounds, caring for your soul, healing the body. For other Cancer risings it may have been more about serving others; tending to the health of others or showing up at the office early in the morning to be of service to the one who pays for your bread. For some Cancer risings it may even have been about both. This chapter of care and servitude started a year and a half ago. Not all wounds have been healed and not all work projects may be finished. But you have learned some important things in the meantime and it’s time to move on. It’s time for a new work project to enter your life. You’re ready to take what you’ve learned and start a new journey. Healing is never done. There’s also always more work, there’s always a to do list. You’re ready for the next thing. Even if it doesn’t feel like you are, trust me: you are ready. You can do the heavy lifting.
What have you learned about pleasure, creativity and romance since May 2021? What happened between now and then in your bedroom chambers and art ateliers? You may have experienced some ups and downs in this area of life, from plenty of orgasms and creative highs to dry November and writer blocks and everything in between. What have you learned about your Venusian pursuits? What makes the creative / sexual juices flow for you? As a Leo rising you have Sagittarius on the 5th house of Venus her joy, which means that creative pursuits and bedroom activities should be passionate, adventurous, not too complicated and fun. Since May 2021 you may have learned to let go of taboos that kept you from experiencing pleasure in the bedroom. Or you may have finally dropped self-limiting beliefs that kept you from exploring your creative potential. Not all romantic dates may have led to relationships though. Not every blanc canvas has been turned into a Picasso. A FWB relationship or some other type of situationship may come to an end with this eclipse. A creative project may have run its course. There may be a completion or an ending to mourn when it comes to the topics of romance / sex / creativity / pleasure / children. Which also means that a new beginning may follow.
The past year and a half has been a lesson in ‘letting go of the past’. This eclipse in Sagittarius comes with final insights and goodbye ceremonies. The topics of parents, ancestry, history, roots and home have been under review. You’ve learned that home is where the heart is. Stone bricks make a house, but not necessarily a home. Genetics make ancestry, but not necessarily family. You’ve been asked to rewrite family history. You’ve learned that all parents make mistakes and you’ve learned about forgiveness. If you haven’t been confronted with the past and the sacred (or not so sacred) grounds you come from, you’ve probably needed to say goodbye to a house a home or familiar place. Sometimes we need a clean slate in order to move forward. It enables you to grow. Even though you might not be able to go back in time and change the past; you’ve learned that history isn’t as fixed as you thought it was. So is your identity. In the past year and a half you’ve become more comfortable in showing yourself to the world. As you become more comfortable with your past, you become more comfortable with yourself and you’re more able to give yourself to the world. And the world should receive you with open arms, as you’ve so much wisdom and gifts to share.
Even though the scales are your symbol, finding balance isn’t always easy for you. How much to give and take, how to divide your time; these remain lessons for you. As 2021 comes to a close, you’re cleaning up your weekly calendar. You’re realizing that you can’t give away all of your time to those neighborhood projects and community services, without sacrificing something of yourself. Or you’re realizing that you want to make more time to create your own art, rather than spend so much time teaching art students. Or maybe it’s time to finally say goodbye to that weekly column in the local newspaper, that you’ve been writing. Whatever it is, the specifics differ per Libra, you’re deciding to let something go in order to create more space for self-balance, your favorite daily rituals or new weekly routines. Cleaning out your calendar, email inbox, and the like may come with a mourning process. It’s not easy to say goodbye to offerings that you used to make gladly. You’ll find, though, that it’s time to let go. And you’ll also find that the newly created space will fill itself in no time. Finding and keeping balance will always be both your gift and struggle dear Libra. Don’t forget to mark a big X in your calendar every now and then. That’s ‘me time’, the X is your ‘me time’.
As the year comes to a close, you may be confronted with the high costs of holiday gifts and warm winter knits. It may feel like money leaves your pocket faster than you want, or you may not have as much on the bank account as you may feel you need. In the past year and a half your livelihood and cashflow has known ups and downs. Good chance you have made some investments, possibly spend money on learning opportunities or business collaborations. Investments often need some time to pay out. With this New Moon, though, you probably find that you want to start investing more in your own piggy bank than in someone else’s. If it’s not about cash, it’s about energy. You’re realizing that you need to keep your energy levels sustained, for whatever the future has in store for you. It’s time to change the ways in which you keep and/or spend your money / energy / skills and talents. Sometimes you want to share, sometimes it’s wise to invest, sometimes it’s better to save up.
The past year and a half have been quite a journey of self-discovery for you. New people have come in and out of your life. And your relationships with them have brought major lessons. You have given to them. Some of you ‘centaur-archers’ have given to lovers, others to students, some to business partners, etc. You’ve invested in relationships and partnerships. Some investments have proven their worth, others not so much. With this last eclipse in your sign, the question is: what have you learned in the process? Where have you given too much? Where have you given yourself away? Who took too much of you? Who has enriched your life? Whatever way you answer these questions: it’s time to date yourself anyway. By which I don’t mean that you should abandon your relationships with lovers, friends, students. By which I just mean ‘date yourself’. Even though we humans are social beings; we are complete in ourselves. We don’t need others to complete us. Happiness, fulfilment, peace, love, is ultimately found in our own hearts, in ourselves. In the past year and a half you’ve been trying to negotiate between the needs of others and your own needs, the desires of others and your own desires, the demands of others and your own demands. Ask yourself: where have you given too much? Where have you given your power or energy away? Where have you lost yourself in the process? Where do you need to come back to yourself? Because you, my dear centaur-archer, are complete within yourself.
Dear Capricorn, it’s time to come back to yourself. This Solar eclipse takes place in one of the darkest corners of your natal chart. It’s the corner of solitude. It’s that space that we enter in meditation, and in therapy. It’s the space that we enter when we write in our diary, when we decide that we want to be alone, when we have dreams or nightmares, or where we go to meet God(des). It’s a place that we sometimes rather not enter. It’s a place we shouldn’t forget though. It’s like the basement of a house, it’s not always comfortable to be there, it can be cold and dark, but we need to go there from time to time, in order to make sure that it’s not flooded with water or covered with mice. Every now and then we need to clean out the basement. Neglected basements are dark and full of dust. When we care for our basements, they can become warm, cozy and loving corners where we actually love to retreat and feel comfortable. We can bring pillows, blankets and candles to our basements. It’s time to care for your basement, it’s time to come back to yourself. To the space that is yours only. Make that space sacred. No more giving yourself away. No more pleasing others. No more putting other people’s needs first. It’s time to sign up for that meditation retreat or give a call to your therapist. I’m not saying that you need to retreat completely or close yourself off from the rest of world (please hang out with your friends this Christmas). I’m just saying that your inner self deserves all the attention that you can give your inner self.
There’ve been multiple goodbyes in the past year and a half. In the pursuit of your passions, desires and loves, you’ve also needed to let some things go. Not everyone has been able to follow you on your journey. Sometimes pursuing our own desires means not being able to meet other people’s desires or demands. Sometimes making me-time means spending less time in your community. Bringing kids into the world takes away time to spend with friends. Running after that lover takes away time to spend with your BFF. Whatever you’ve been creating or enjoying in the past year and a half, it has probably been in a different corner of your world than the one you used to share with your friends / community / group hangouts. With this Solar eclipse you may feel suddenly aware of the space between you and your people or the loss of a dear friend. Or maybe you just feel a little lonely, that’s all. This Solar eclipse marks the end of a chapter. It may have served you valuable lessons. What have you learned about friendship, community and ‘your people’ in the past year and a half? What does friendship mean to you? What does it mean to you to be part of a community? What about (equal) give and take in these relationships? What about the offerings that you would like to make to ‘your people’? Who’s been sticking around in the past year and a half? Who has not? Who do you count on? Who has your back? Whose back do you have? If you have a BFF or support system, give them a call and tell them you love them. Life is too short to keep all the love inside and to ourselves.
As the year is coming to an end, you’re putting the last hands to a work project or you’re realizing that the end of a certain work project isn’t that far away anymore. Or maybe you’re realizing that you spend enough time in a certain organization, doing a certain job or the like. You’re coming to realizations about your career and it’s highly possible that a certain career chapter is ending. Which also means, that a new chapter is beginning. You might not foresee it yet, what is in store for your career. You do know, however, that you’re ready for some change. Endings aren’t always easy, but sometimes they are necessary. In case you’re not working on the final chapter of some work achievement, because maybe you’re still in college or a stay at home mom or doing something else; you may be receiving some insights about the contributions that you would like to make to this world or the legacy that you’re creating. You don’t need to stick to a certain plan, because that plan was so damn good five years ago. You change, the world changes, thus your plans may change. You don’t need to stick to a certain career path, because it’s the path that your mom and dad imagined for you. You do your own path. You’re allowed to take all the time you need to figure out your own path; whether you’re 20, 30, 40, 50 hell even 80 years old. Have trust that you’ll find your way.
