New Moon in Scorpio – Mars reborn

November 13, 2020

Art by Leonora Carrington

The New Moon arrives 12.07 am ET / 06.07 am CET on November 15th and will be at 23 degrees Scorpio. With the Moon in the sign of her fall, there’s a bit of discomfort to be felt. Though the Moon does well in other water signs, in Scorpio the waters are a little too dark for her taste. Scorpio adds to the intensity of emotional life. The Moon is in her fall in Scorpio and exalted in Taurus. Scorpio and Taurus form a polarity, an axis.

The Moon does well and is exalted in Taurus, the opposite sign of Scorpio, because Taurus stabilizes the emotional flow (ups and downs) of the Moon. Taurus brings a grounding environment to the Moon, which is comfortable and feels safe. Scorpio does the opposite. Where Taurus stabilizes, Scorpio transforms. Scorpio always brings us into the uncomfortable. Scorpio asks us to undergo. Scorpio is king in suffering. Sometimes even for the sake of suffering itself. Which shouldn’t be the goal, suffering shouldn’t be a goal in itself. The goal is to transform. The poison of the Scorpion is both deadly and healing. Scorpio teaches us that it isn’t so much the pain of suffering that kills us, it’s the way we treat ourselves while we’re undergoing it. It’s the way we handle the uncomfortable situations, the challenges in life, the traumas that haunt us that ultimately transforms the suffering either into darkness or light, death or healing.

This New Moon is under the ruling of Mars at 15 degrees Aries, who is slow and just stationed direct less than 30 hours before the New Moon arrives. The stationing direct of a planet is much like that planet being reborn. With the ruler of the New Moon just being born again: this is a New Moon with the emphasis on ‘new’. Mars gained new insight, energy and courage after having completed his retrograde journey. Mars his energy is channeled through this New Moon. This New Moon comes with a willingness to fight for something. For the dreams, for self-worth, for the other, for desires… Mars is just beginning his fight, he’s not going to give up. Whatever part of your life has been feeling like a battlefield, Mars is ready to enter it with new found determination and energy. Mars is the one that brings us courage. Tap into that. We all have our own reservoir of courage somewhere. Don’t let fear keep your paralyzed. Don’t let fear hold you back from honoring yourself and your dreams. Things might not be perfect right now. Not everything in life is how you would like it to be. But: things can change. A combination of courage and patience brings you a long way. (Don’t forget patience. Mars is not so good at being patient. Especially not Mars in Aries. But we need patience too.)

The New Moon at 23 degrees Scorpio is connected by sextile with Jupiter and Pallas who are both at 23 degrees of Capricorn, moving away from Pluto who is at 22 degrees Capricorn. The sextile by Jupiter offers a gentle support to this New Moon. Jupiter isn’t that strong in Capricorn. But moving away from Pluto and being supported by his daughter Pallas he’s able to put a good luck charm on the New Moon. Channel the good from Mars (courage and assertiveness) and stay away from the bad (aggression and purely acting for your own pleasure).

Advice for the New Moon: channel the courage from Mars to overcome whatever is holding you back, channel the courage from Mars to transform yourself.

Astrology forecast

November 21st Venus enters Scorpio & Sun enters Sagittarius

On November 21st Venus enters Scorpio at 8.22 am ET / 2.22 pm CET and some hours later the Sun enters Sagittarius at 3.40 pm ET / 9.40 pm CET.

Venus moving into Scorpio brings us a bit of ease. In Libra she was bothered by Mars and Saturn. In Scorpio she’s a bit more safe. Venus is in her detriment in Scorpio and under the ruling of Mars, which means that she’s not particularly well supported in doing her work (bringing love and pleasure into this world). That doesn’t mean she can’t bring us blessings, it’s just a little more challenging for her to do so. Venus in Scorpio will be opposite Uranus. In the upcoming week or two there might develop some surprising/insightful/liberating events when it comes to relationships/love and/or the topics under the house that Scorpio is on in your personal birth chart.

When the Sun enters Sagittarius some mutable energy comes into play again. There’s been an emphasis on cardinal energy (Aries, Libra and Capricorn) in the last few weeks, with a bit of fixed energy from Scorpio. Cardinal signs create and change energy, fixed signs contain it and mutable signs disperse it. The mutable energy coming back into play will feel like a relief. If energy is only directed and contained and has nowhere to go, pressure builds up. With the Sun entering Sagittarius I suspect we will get a bit more freedom of movement.

Sagittarius is the centaur philosopher of the zodiac. Ruled by Jupiter, this centaur likes to spread wisdom, spiritual insights and lust and passion for life. Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign. I dare to say it’s the most adventurous and enthusiastic sign of the zodiac. Too much Sagittarius energy can lead to wildfires. We saw that last year when the Sun and Mars were in Sagittarius; the Sun and Mars are both hot and they can aggravate mutable fire energy. Sagittarius can party a little too hard sometimes. But now, after a build up of cardinal energy, we can use a bit of release. Let go and have fun (as far as covid regulations allow it). The Sun in Sagittarius supports having some fun.

November 28th / 29th Neptune stations direct at 18 degrees Pisces

Neptune stations direct at 18 degrees Pisces at 7.37 pm ET on November 28th / 1 am CET November 29th. Neptune stationed retrograde in June, traveling back from 20 degrees Pisces to 18 degrees Pisces. If you have any personal planets or points between 17-21 degrees Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius, this retrograde transit has made a mark on you. Neptune can bring inspiration and dreams. Neptune can also bring illusion and confusion. In case this transit touched planets or points in your chart, you’ve probably felt confused about some matters (the planets/points and houses that are influenced, give you clues as to what topics). Things will slowly become more clear. Slowly, because Neptune takes some time.

The Full Moon arrives on November 30th 4.30 am ET / 10.30 am CET at 8 degrees Gemini

This Full Moon is a penumbral eclipse. I’ll be back with you soon with more information.

Love, Maud
