Full Moon in Leo

January 26, 2021

Photo found via Pinterest

The Full Moon arrives at 9 degrees Leo on January 28th 2.16 pm ET / 8.16 pm CET. The Moon shines glorious in the sign of Leo, as she reflects the light of the Sun, the ruler of Leo, who will be conjunct the greater benefic Jupiter.

The Full Moon in Leo shines opposite of a gathering of planets in Aquarius (the Sun, Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury). The Moon is the body that moves through the twelve zodiacal signs in just 28 days. We tap into the Moon in our chart when we cope with daily life, when we emote and regulate. The Moon, in mundane astrology, helps to regulate the different planetary ‘influences’. As she circles around the Earth, she’s our satellite, antenna and buffer. She’s the Mother that protects us, cares for us closely. As a bunch of planets have gathered in Aquarius (and Venus will enter Aquarius soon too), this Full Moon in Leo reflects what Aquarius season is and will be about. Mercury will station retrograde, two days after the Full Moon, and travel backwards through the sign Aquarius. Venus will enter Aquarius soon, and by then all personal planets (except Mars) will be gathered in Aquarius. There will be a big emphasis on the parts of our charts that contain Aquarius, from the end of January until mid February. This emphasis has been building up since mid December. The Full Moon in Leo reflects the opening scene of the play that is about to unfold.

Sun conjunct Jupiter

The Full Moon in Leo is supportive of full and honest self-expression. As mentioned, the Full Moon will be opposite Jupiter. The Sun will conjunct Jupiter exactly on January 29th, but the Sun and Jupiter will be both at 9 degrees Aquarius on the day of the Full Moon. This brings some optimism, vitality and lust for life. It’s an energizing Full Moon. This Full Moon is one to mark for people with personal planets or points near 9 degrees of the fixed signs.

Venus conjunct Pluto

Venus will conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, on the day of the Full Moon. This transit is an intense one, for those ruled by Venus or with personal planets / points near 24 degrees Capricorn. Venus conjunct Pluto can signify powerplays in important relationships; in personal relationships, in business or other partnerships. Venus conjunct Pluto may also come with intense love drama or sexual arousal. Venus is the archetypal expression of love and relationships; of what we love, what we seek, value and offer in love, how we relate to others and to the world in general. Pluto pulls our focus to the dark shadows and/or to power. Pluto transforms and intensifies whatever he touches.

Astrology forecast

January 30th Mercury stations retrograde

Mercury in Aquarius supports thinking about boundaries, brainstorming about structures, learning about systems, understanding infrastructures, talking about social justice, getting vocal about rights, conversing in Zoom rooms, dispersing goods through fixed postal lines. Mercury in Aquarius can be detached and out there. Mercury in Aquarius can get lost in the clouds. It’s in those clouds, though, where Mercury becomes creative. Mercury in Aquarius supports our intelligence and is supportive of thinking outside the box.

Mercury stations retrograde at 26 degrees Aquarius. Mercury will travel back to 11 degrees Aquarius, where he’ll station direct on February 21st. Mercury retrograde has a bad name and is known to be related to communication problems; missing packages and letters; lost internet connections; travel delays; exes suddenly texting you again, etc. Though these are, in fact, typical Mercury retrograde happenings, Mercury retrograde can also be about ‘getting a second chance at stuff’. Mercury retrograde isn’t something to be afraid of. When Mercury is retrograde, he’s traveling backwards on his path and has the chance to fix previous mistakes or just do some stuff over. We don’t always get a second chance at things. Sometimes Mercury retrograde provides us a welcome second chance. Look at the house that Aquarius is on, in your chart, to see what area / topics of life this Mercury retrograde might be about for you.

If you have personal planets, the ascendant or midheaven in between 10-12 degrees and/or 25-27 degrees of Aquarius, this Mercury retrograde might be more significant to you. Mercury retrograde tends to be a little more challenging for Gemini rising and Virgo rising.

February 2nd Sun square Mars & Venus enters Aquarius

The Sun in Aquarius squares Mars in Taurus. Things get heated. Both the Sun and Mars are hot and they both bring energy, vitality and assertion. This is the clashing of two strong egos. With deliberate focus, one can make the best of this buildup of fire, by directing this energy at a project or the like. With both Taurus and Aquarius in the mix, the energy is best used for building something solid, sustainable and worthwhile (no matter if it’s a creative endeavor, relationship or work project). Suppress the ego and direct the energy at something outside of yourself, something that serves the world. If the two egos (Sun and Mars) can’t manage to see beyond themselves, this clashing of energies can result in separation, fights and the destruction of safety and comfort (Taurus) and social justice systems (Aquarius). This aspect may serve protesting for equal rights. This aspect can also mirror terrorism disguised as protesting.

Venus joins the gang in Aquarius. Venus in Aquarius is a lover of humankind. Venus in Aquarius is open minded and future oriented. She has her own interests, unique opinions and personal sense of style. Venus in Aquarius loves in a different way and she loves the different. Venus in Aquarius is the unconventional lover. As mentioned, Mercury (retrograde), Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun are already present in Aquarius. Venus joins them. That means that Mars (in Taurus) is the only personal planet that is not in Aquarius (reminder; Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are not personal planets). The emphasis on the parts our charts that contain Aquarius gets even bigger.

February 6th Venus conjunct Saturn & February 7th Venus square Uranus

When Venus conjuncts Saturn, matters of love, and relating in general, get more serious. Relationships need commitment. When we partner up, we need to be able to rely on each other. We need to show up for each other. We can’t expect attention, when we won’t show up in return. We can’t expect commitment, when we’re too afraid to commit ourselves. Relationships, of any kind, ask investment. Two people share the responsibility of making the relationship work; and each individual is responsible for their own actions. This transit is here to remind us that relationships are work.

While Venus is just separating from her conjunction with Saturn, she squares Uranus. Thus, while we’re faced with the fact that we share in the responsibilities of sustaining relationships, and while we’re faced with the fact that we need to show up if we want relationships to work and last, a part of us wants to break free from the constraints that we might experience. Relationships sometimes feel constricting. Relationships sometimes ask for sacrifice. Freedom might be more alluring. Do you want to go your own way? Or do you sacrifice a bit of freedom for a solid partnership?

February 8th Mercury retrograde conjunct Sun

Mercury retrograde conjuncts the Sun. We might gain some clarity as to what this Mercury retrograde is about. Mercury cazimi usually comes with insights, or solutions. If any Mercury retrograde issues developed in the past few weeks, you might find a solution or gain clarity on how to handle the situation around this time.

February 10th Mercury retrograde square Mars

When Mercury retrograde squares Mars, Mercury receives some fiery energy. This transit might reflect hotheadedness, discussions and arguments. This transit isn’t a friendly one. However, this transit will help some to vocalize their suppressed anger and frustration. Self-assertion and expressing anger isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes conflict leads to resolution. For those of us that have trouble to express our needs, with the result of being pushed over or used, this transit might come with the support that’s needed to finally get vocalize these needs. Mercury retrograde square Mars might also reflect some Mercury retrograde issues – that you thought were subsiding or dealt with – flaring up again.
