Annular Solar Eclipse in Gemini – Cleaning out Mercury’s closet

June 7, 2021

Photo (Incarnation 2) from a series made in 2014 in Mali, by photographer Joe Penney (New York city, United States) and actor and artist Abdou Ouloguem (Bamako, Mali). I picked this photo because the sign Gemini is related to the hands and arms of the human body (all signs are related to certain body parts).

The New Moon arrives on June 10th 6.52 am ET / 12.52 pm CET at 19 degrees Gemini. This New Moon is an annular Solar eclipse.

The New Moon is under the ruling of Mercury retrograde in Gemini. Who’s very close to the Sun, at 20 degrees Gemini. Mercury cazimi (the conjunction of Mercury and the Sun) takes place only some hours after the New Moon on June 10th 9.12 pm ET / June 11th 03.12 am CET. Mercury cazimi marks the midpoint of the Mercury retrograde period that started on May 29th/30th and ends on June 22nd/23rd. Mercury cazimi often comes with insights as to what the Mercury retrograde period is about. This New Moon Solar eclipse and Mercury retrograde are closely connected with each other. How do we understand these transits?

If you want to understand what these transits mean for your personally, you would want to take a look at the house that Gemini is on in your birth chart. If you know your rising sign (ascendant) you can determine the house. Below follows a list with the rising signs and the house that Gemini is on plus the house significations (this list is based on using ‘Whole Signs’ as house system). If you don’t know your rising sign, click here for some help to figure it out (you’ll need your date, place and time of birth). You can also book a birth chart consultation with me, click here, if you need support in reading your birth chart.

Aries rising: 3rd house of communication, reading, writing, learning, siblings, neighborhood, short distance travels, daily rituals
Taurus rising: 2nd house of livelihood, (making, having and spending) money, assets, resources, skills and knowledge, self-worth
Gemini rising: 1st house of self, self-image, identity, the body, life force / vitality, looks, persona
Cancer rising: 12th house of seclusion, meditation, spirituality, the subconscious, loneliness, self-undoing, self-sabotage
Leo rising: the 11th house of friends, community, groups, networks, good fortune, audiences
Virgo rising: the 10th house of career, vocation, public roles, public image, offerings to make to this world
Libra rising: the 9th house of future plans, travels, studies, teaching, academics, writing and publishing, religion, philosophy, ritual work and astrology
Scorpio rising: the 8th house of shared resources, other people’s money, inheritances, debt, death, psychology, intimacy
Sagittarius rising: the 7th house of important others, relationships, significant love relationships, important partnerships in work and friendships, client relationships
Capricorn rising: the 6th house of work, servitude, service, health and pets
Aquarius rising: the 5th house of creativity, romance, sex, love and children
Pisces rising: the 4th house of roots, history, ancestry, family, home and housing

The Solar eclipse and Mercury retrograde take place in the house that Gemini is on in your chart, as you can determine if you know your rising sign. Mercury retrograde is all about cleaning up that house and a topic or some topics related to that house. About figuring out the stuff that’s in the Gemini house / Mercury’s closet; and the stuff you want to keep, the stuff you want to sell/throw away and the new stuff you want to buy/find. This Gemini season is all about getting that part of your birth chart in order. That’s a big task! Not one to be finished in one day. You’ll need days, weeks and maybe even the months to come (as the Full Moon in Gemini that arrives in half a year from now, will bring completion of the task).

The Solar eclipse of June 10th marks a new start for sure. Done with the old. You start with the new. Even if you don’t have a complete and clear grasp of what the new looks like (yet); the new start is happening and will unfold in the upcoming months. As mentioned, it’s a cleaning. Out with the old and in with the new. Let go of the stuff that’s no longer serving you, so you may make place for the stuff that will serve you. You may do things differently. For example: If you are a Taurus rising, you may change your relationship with money. If you’re a Sagittarius rising, you may decide to do relationships differently. If you’re a Pisces rising, you may change the ways in which you narrate your past. Eclipses are here to remind us that the stuff that seems fixed, isn’t necessarily that fixed. Change can happen. What is the change that you want and the change that you seek? This eclipse is here to help you to make it happen.

Two weeks ago, I shared horoscopes for Gemini season. They are still valid! You can read them again over here.

Wising you an insightful Solar eclipse and Mercury cazimi. Below follows the astrology forecast for the upcoming couple of weeks.

Astrology Forecast

June 11th Mars enters Leo

When Mars enters Leo, things will get hot. Mars in Cancer is cooled down by the waters of the Moon. Mars in Leo is heated by the flames of the Sun. Mars is hot by nature already! Things are about to get hotter. Not just because Mars does better in the fire sign ruled by the Sun, than in the water sign ruled by the Moon. Also, because Mars in Leo will be opposite Saturn in Aquarius and square Uranus in Taurus. Okay, these transits aren’t necessarily hot (Aquarius and Saturn are actually cold). But the T square between Mars, Saturn and Uranus definitely comes with challenges. There will be tension between fire (Leo), air (Aquarius) and earth (Taurus). If we want to release the tension, where do we go? We’ll need to go into water (Scorpio). Intuition and sensing in the dark; that’s where the Scorpio help comes in. Look at the houses in your chart that contain Taurus, Leo and Aquarius; these houses will start to draw more attention when Mars enters Leo. The parts of your birth chart that contain Taurus and Aquarius have been undergoing reconstruction for a while now. Mars in Leo will boost that! The boost will probably not be comfortable. But, it can be very helpful. Mars may help to get things moving where they used to be stuck. If you don’t know how to navigate the tension, seek refuge and support in the house that Scorpio is on in your birth chart.

June 13th / 14th Sun square Neptune

Though both the Sun and Neptune may signify insights and clarity, the square relationship between the two just after the New Moon eclipse, may come with some blurred vision. Neptune sometimes brings great clarity and other times great confusion. Neptune brings fog and mist. Neptune also removes fog and mist. This transit makes me think of the sunshine that finds its way through mist. It illuminates some stuff. It’s easier to see through mist when there’s light that’s guiding you. But still, there’s mist; some stuff remains hidden or just vaguely visible. Whatever Gemini season has been about for you, these days you may find that you’ve gained clarity that you didn’t have before while also realizing the road ahead is unsure. As so often is the case in life; the more we learn and get to know, the more we realize that there’s so much that we don’t know. How do you best navigate while traveling on a misty road? Relying on other senses besides just eyesight! Sun square Neptune may teach us that the mind only brings us so far… We need the heart to sense our way in this world too.

June 20th Jupiter stations retrograde

Jupiter entered Pisces on May 13th (US) / 14th (EU / Asia). Jupiter is strong in Pisces, because Pisces is Jupiter his domicile. Jupiter brings about growth, wisdom and good fortune. Thus, we like to have Jupiter in Pisces. On June 20thJupiter stations retrograde at 2 degrees Pisces. This means that Jupiter will travel back to 1 degree Pisces, 0 degrees Pisces and then ingress into Aquarius (again). Jupiter was in Aquarius from late December until mid-May. Jupiter has unfinished business in Aquarius. Jupiter isn’t as strong in Aquarius as he’s in Pisces. Jupiter in Aquarius will be co-present and under the ruling of Saturn. The unfinished business of Jupiter in Aquarius has to do with Jupiter helping out Saturn in restructuring the parts of our birth charts that contain Aquarius. Jupiter retrograde will enter Aquarius again on July 28th. Jupiter will station direct on October 18th. Jupiter will leave Aquarius and enter Pisces again on December 28th.

June 20th / June 21st Sun enters Cancer

Summer starts when the Sun enters Cancer. The ingress of the Sun in Cancer marks the Summer Solstice (while the ingress of the Sun in Capricorn marks the Winter Solstice).

With the Sun in Cancer we are asked to shed light on our nurturing qualities and emotional bonds. In and around ourselves. In our bodies, in our families, in our friendships, in our communities. The Sun in Cancer shines by creating and nurturing relationships and emotional bonds. Which relationships do you want to strengthen? Which bonds do you want to nourish? Especially the first days of Cancer season, while Venus is still in Cancer too, together with the Sun, we’re supported connecting and nurturing.

Cancer is the sign of the womb, a a sign of housing and safekeeping. Cancer cares. Cancer cares deeply. The womb is the place where life is safe and where life is nurtured. During Cancer season, just after the eclipse season, in these strange pandemic times, we might want to ask ourselves: Where and when do I feel safe? How do I create safety for myself and others? What can I initiate and where can I contribute in this world in order for all of humankind to feel safe? Where do I need to nurture myself? How can I nurture others that are in need? Am I attending to my body the way my body deserves? Am I attending to my feelings? Do I listen? Do I hold space for my emotions? Do I hold space for other people’s emotions? Do I respect the boundaries that other people set? Am I willing to acknowledge that all of us process emotions in different ways and can I respect it when other people have different needs than I do? Do I dare to nurture? Can bring more of my nurturing qualities into the world? Or maybe I need to redirect my nurturing energy to myself?

As humans in a worldwide crisis we are challenged to not get disconnected from ourselves and each other. The Moon, the luminary that rules Cancer, is the Mother in the cosmos. Cancer is a sign of motherhood. The Moon is the one that cares for us all. The Moon teaches us on motherhood. We are in desperate need of motherhood. During Cancer season we can bring light into the world by nurture and care. Especially now, in these challenging times for the Earth and the human collective, this is incredibly needed.

June 21st Venus in Cancer trine Neptune in Pisces

When Venus in Cancer trines Neptune in Pisces, we may gain some clarity on matters that have to do with love or relating in general. If you’ve been unsure about your feelings for someone or your feelings about a relationship for a while, you may have started to gain clarity on it when Venus entered Cancer on June 2nd; now that the trine between Venus and Neptune becomes exact, the insights are undeniable. Trust the insights on love and relationships that are coming in these days.

Feel the feels.

Venus trine Neptune in these watery signs is a supportive transit for romantic chocolate bonbon dates, tantra practices and sex in the shower or bathtub. Get wet!

June 22nd / 23rd Mercury stations direct

Mercury stations direct at 16 degrees Pisces at 6pm ET on June 22nd / 12.00 am CET on June 23rd. In case you have personal planets or points in between 15-17 degrees of any of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces), you may want to take note of Mercury’s station.

With Mercury stationing direct, we’re starting to wrap up the eclipse season. Even though the Solar eclipse is past us and the next lunation won’t be an eclipse, eclipse season was overlapping Gemini season and under the ruling of Mercury in Gemini. Mercury retrograde and the New Moon eclipse in Gemini were closely connected. Now that Mercury stations direct, he’ll tie up the last loose ends in Gemini. It’s when Mercury leaves Gemini and enters Cancer on July 11th, when we really finish this Gemini chapter. The emphasis on the Gemini parts of our charts is not as strong now as it was in May and early June; but there’s still some finishing up to do, some last housecleaning.

When Mercury stations direct, in his own home sign, he’s super focused and strong. These days are good for Mercury / Gemini related tasks. Studying for exams, writing letters, making spreadsheets, traveling; these kinds of activities are astrologically supported.

June 23rd Sun trine Jupiter

The Sun in Cancer trine Jupiter in Pisces is a lovely supportive transit that brings wisdom and growth. Jupiter is in his domicile (Jupiter is the ruler of Pisces), which makes him extra strong. Both the Sun and Jupiter may signify insight, wisdom and spiritual growth. Given that both the Sun and Jupiter are in water signs, the pathway to wisdom and spiritual growth is the realm of feelings. We’re not talking about wisdom that’s gained by studying books. We’re talking about wisdom that’s gained through meditation and connecting with intuition. The houses that Cancer and Pisces are on in your birth chart, receive some help and warmth when the Sun trines Jupiter.

June 23rd / June 24th Venus opposite Pluto

If there’s love drama going on in your life, brace yourself for these days. Venus opposite Pluto may bring the hidden feelings out in the open. This transit may confront us with intimacy issues and/or powerplays. Venus in Cancer wants to feel emotionally safe. Opposite Pluto she finds herself confronted with taboos. Either internal or external ones.

The Full Moon arrives on June 24th 02.39 pm ET / 08.39 pm CET at 3 degrees Capricorn

I’ll be back with you before the Full Moon arrives. Love, Maud
